The Second National Summit on Retirement Savings

27 February - 1 March 2002

In 1997, the "Savings Are Vital to Everyone's Retirement (SAVER) Act" was passed in Congress and signed by the President. As part of the bill, the first National Summit on Retirement Savings was held on June 4-5, 1998 in Washington, D.C. The Summit, jointly convened by the President and the bipartisan leadership of Congress, strived to increase public awareness of the importance of retirement planning and to identify ways to promote greater retirement savings by all Americans.

Additional information on the 1998 National Summit on Retirement Savings can be found at: For information on the second National Summit on February 27 - March 1, 2002, see: The SAVER legislation (in .pdf format) is available for your review at: Please refer to pages 4, 5, and 6 for language regarding the appointment of national summit participants.
