“Savingsman” PSA Campaign Nominated for 2007 National Emmy Award
Oct. 4, 2007—Another Choose to Save® public service announcement (PSA) campaign has been nominated for a national 2007 Emmy® award, according to an announcement by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The awards will be announced and presented at a ceremony Nov. 9 in New York City.
The CTS “Savingsman” PSA campaign, featuring the high-flying champion of saving and planning for retirement, was one of four PSAs nominated for a 2007 National Academy Emmy Award in the “local public service announcement” category. In the campaign, “Savingsman” is decked out in green tights, red shorts, and a dark flowing cape, and dashes across the television screen like a speeding bullet, offering tips on how to save for retirement. The campaign was sponsored by Choose to Save® (CTS, www.choosetosave.org), a national education program of the EBRI Education and Research Fund and its American Savings Education Council (ASEC).

Earlier this year, the “Savingsman” campaign received three 2007 Emmy awards from the regional National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Over the past decade, the Choose to Save® program has received a total of 10 Emmy Awards for producing quality and educational PSAs. Additionally, Savingsman was awarded a prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award.
All of the Choose to Save® public service announcements were developed and produced for broadcast in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area by CTS media partners WJLA-TV/ABC7, Bonneville International Corp.–WTOP/WGMS Radio, and NEWSCHANNEL 8. The National Association of Broadcasters and the Associated Press provide additional national television and radio distribution of the public service announcements. Choose to Save® PSA, Web site, and materials development have been underwritten through generous grants from Fidelity Investments with additional support from EBRI members and ASEC partner institutions.
