New Roll-Out of “Financial Security in Later Life” National Initiative
Contact: Jane Schuchardt, Ph.D. National Program Leader
In spring 2005, CSREES-USDA, the Cooperative Extension System federal partner, will roll out a new curriculum in the “Financial Security in Later Life” national initiative toolkit for community educators. Secure Your Financial Future: Organize, Communicate, Prepare is a three-seminar program designed to educate participants to evaluate their legal status related to later life issues, develop a personal action plan, and take important steps to safeguard their families’ financial future. Extension educators representing seven land-grant universities developed the curriculum. The Web site, managed at the University of Idaho, contains all the tools an educator needs to plan, market, implement, and evaluate this program. The curriculum will be available via the educator section of the “Financial Security in Later Life” site at http://www.csrees.usda.gov/fsll. A Web-accessible version of Secure Your Financial Future, designed for direct use by individuals and families, is under development.
